Kansas Republican Party Debates Removing Minority, Youth, and Women's Organizations from Leadership Positions. Republicans Refuse to Condemn

Kansas Republicans are edging towards a decision to remove certain constituency groups, including those representing women, Black, Hispanic, and young Republicans, from their party's executive board. This move would strengthen the authority of the party's newly-appointed hard-right chairman. The proposal, which was advanced by the Kansas Republican Party's rules committee, involves revising the party's bylaws to eliminate these groups that aimed to expand the party's appeal. Additionally, it would also remove state and federal GOP elected officials whom are minorities from the executive board's membership, which is responsible for managing party operations and making budgetary decisions.

The Kansas Republican Party's full state committee will vote on the proposal to remove certain constituency groups from the party's executive board and a separate proposal to eliminate individual seats on the state committee. The vote is expected to take place in the summer. The change to the executive committee would require a simple majority, while the change to the state committee would need two-thirds support as per the proposed amendment to the party constitution.

Black Republican Council, and Hispanic Assembly are optimistic that the proposed changes to the party's bylaws will be rejected or that the matter will not come to a vote. However, if the changes are implemented, they fear that important voices will be lost from the party's leadership. Michael Austin, the chair of the Kansas Black Republican Council, expressed disappointment with the decision to eliminate Black leadership representation from the Kansas GOP. In a statement, he called the proposed rule "short-sighted" and urged state delegates to oppose it and work towards unifying and strengthening the party.

Despite the racism and sexism, Republicans at large have absolutely refused to condemn the Kansas situation, despite the insinuations made upon the Republican party as a result. It's the latest in a show of hypocrisy, with Republicans refusing to call out systemic racism and sexism whilst being stared in the face by it, whilst also claiming at large that system racism and sexism do not exist.
